First Impressions

Hey Everyone,

I’m back after a great Christmas and New Years, and I hope you guys/girls also had a great one as well. When we last spoke I explained the important parts necessary to have a successful interview in struts framework. Lets quickly look at the equation:

Struts Framework Knowledge Base + Interview Confidence = Successful Struts Interview

In this post, like the last, I will be looking at the interview side of the equation, ie interview confidence.

Confidence is a huge part of any human interaction. But confidence is not only limited to language, it is an overall portrayal of yourself (which includes language, but that will be part of another post)

A very important issue is the first impression. Everyone only gets one first impression and it is extremely difficult to recover from a bad first impression, especially in an interview where there is only a limited amount of time.

The way to make a good first impression is with proper clothes. I prefer a nice simple suit. Not one that you’ll go to a club or prom with, but a simple black suit with a white dress shirt, you can go a bit funky or show a bit of attitude with your tie because everyone likes a fun tie and it makes for an easy conversation starter.

After you got your clothes in check, you don’t want to come off nervous, you want to stand up straight, look at the interviewers eyes with a nice smile as you shake their hands and introduce yourself.

After proper introductions (please I BEG of you do not and I repeat do NOT blabber when introducing yourself, a quick joke, maybe an anecdote but THATS IT) you prepare for the questions.

Things to avoid:

- Fidgeting: this is a faux-pas, you do not want to be fidgeting with your tie or anything when talking or answring questions, shows nervousness which is very unattractive

- Blabbering : When answering a question, GET TO THE POINT don’t over explain there are a lot of questions to get and you don’t want to cut the interview short

- Hesitate: if you hesitate as a first impression, you’ll usually hesitate throughout the whole interview, so practice in front of a mirror at home and relax, don’t hesitate at all

Later all

Focus on “The Interview”

Hey All,

I haven’t been posting much since I created this site because, like it or not, I had to let this site age and start ranking so that you guys could easily find it. Without working on making my site popular in Google’s eyes, none of you would even find my site!

For the next couple of posts, I’m going to steer a bit away from struts framework information and focus on the interview side of the equation

The Struts Interview Equation:

Struts Framework Knowledge Base + Interview Confidence = Successful Struts Interview

I am not here to feed you crap. I am not here to tell you your amazing and you have what it takes. I am here to give you my insight and my knowledge for how I achieved a successful interview. I have been through tons of interviews in many different software and computer related fields and I’ve noticed a commonality within every single interview; Confidence in your answers and in yourself. This might sound very logical and even stupid but it’s true.

With confidence and 100% belief in what I say is true, I can convince you that unicorns exist. The point here is not to manipulate anyone, just to make the interviewer believe you know exactly what your talking about (which you should, especially in struts framework), and you want him to like and remember you. Lets face it, who are you more likely to believe and generally like; a person who hesitates when answering a question, speaks a low soft voice and fidgets or someone who speaks with confidence, doesn’t hesitate, sits up straight, is well dressed. Most people wouldn’t even remember the first person let alone like or believe him/her.

Think about all this for the time being and I’ll be back with my next interview post about the importance of First Impressions and EQ

Yours Truely,

Mike
